After failing to qualify for the World Cup four times in a row, Morocco qualified for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar after playing in Russia four years ago, topping their group with a 5-2 aggregate win over Democratic Republic of Congo in the play-offs.
But Halilhodzic resigned from his job in August amid what the national association called “disagreements”.
That means former Morocco defender Regragui is back three months before the tournament in Qatar.
He will be looking to lead the football-mad nation to their best finish since the 1986 World Cup, when they became the first African nation to qualify for the first round, not only from a group consisting of England, Poland and Portugal, but won them.
Morocco team are in Group F, where they meet 2018 runners-up Croatia, Belgium and Canada.

Morocco’s Atlas Lions kick off their Qatar 2022 World Cup tournament with a showdown with 2018 runners-up Croatia.
The match against Croatia will take place at the Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor, Qatar at 11:00 local time on November 23.
The game’s lineup has yet to be announced.
Morocco vs Belgium
Morocco will play Belgium in the second match of Group F at 14:00 local time on November 27. According to FIFA rankings as of October 6, Belgium is the second best football team in the world.
The Atlas Lions take on the Belgian national team at the Al Thumama stadium.
Morocco vs Canada
Morocco’s third match in Group F is against Canada on December 1. The match Morocco Vs Canada will take place at the Al Thumama Stadium at 16:00 local time.
Morocco will play a friendly match with Georgia on Thursday, November 17 prior to official matches in the world cup in Qatar.
