    19th edition of the Marrakech International Film Festival 2022

    Under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the 19th edition of the Marrakech International Film Festival will take place from 11 to 19 november 2022, and will present a variety of world films. 76 films from 33 countries will be screened in several sections: Official Competition, Grand Screening, Special Screening, 11th Continent, Morocco Panorama, Cinema for Young Audiences, Screening in Djemaa El Fna Square Tribute to Moroccan and International cinema Figures.

    True to the festival’s positioning, the competition showcases the films of directors who are producing their first or second feature film in order to discover and promote new talent in the world’s film industry. Of the 14 films selected, 10 are debuts and 6 are female directors.

    It is a diverse selection from 14 countries, two from Latin America (Brazil and Mexico), three from Europe (France, Portugal and Switzerland) and four from the MEA region and its diaspora (Morocco, Sweden/Somalia, Syria, Tunisia) and films from Australia, Canada, Indonesia, Iran and Turkey.

    Films competing for the Étoile d’Or explore genres from fantasy to noir and featuring period films, social dramas, thrillers and melodramas, and address topics that reflect the concerns of younger generations around the world: identity construction, the need for role models and the role of women in today’s position in society, and the question of imparting knowledge, whether it be tradition, political legacy, or love.

    In keeping with its tradition of celebrating the diversity of cinema, the Marrakech International Film Festival will honor four great personalities for their illustrious careers. Legendary Scottish performer and producer Tilda Swinton, renowned American filmmaker James Gray, Moroccan film pioneer and director Farida Benliazid and Indian superstar Ranveer Singh will Received the Gold Star “Étoile d’or” Award at the Film Festival.

    Anurag Kashyap at the world premiere of “ALMOST LOVE” at JEMAA EL FNA! Every night, popular films are screened in the open air at the mysterious Place Jemaa El Fna in Marrakech, where film celebrities meet audiences, bringing the festival to life in the heart of Red city.     ‘Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio’, directed by Guillermo del Toro and Mark Gustafson, will be openning on November 11, 2022 Marrakech International Film Festival and celebrated its MEA premiere as part of GALA SCREENINGS.
